This scripture has always amazed me. The people who are saying this were slaves in Egypt! God sends a man named Moses to free them. I have never been a slave but I would think freedom would be the most important thing to achieve! Yet, we find them plotting to overthrow Moses to go back to Egypt and become slaves again. This sounds crazy! It was Patrick Henry who said, “Give me liberty or give me death!” But as silly as this notion sounds, I find myself doing the same thing. There are many things in life that can enslave us; our attitude, perspectives, habits, etc. And while we know we need to change those things, it is easier said than done. Even when we try to leave those things behind, we often find ourselves going right back to them; right back to Egypt.
This Lent Season, we will look at some practical ways in which we can leave Egypt (our attitudes, views and habits), wonder into the Wilderness and make it to the Promised Land (Easter). First, we must be honest about answering the question; “What is our Egypt?” and then committing ourselves to have the strength to leave it behind. On Wednesday, we will have a service at 5:45 to kick off our journey and then, on Wednesday’s evenings, during Lent, we will have a small service at 5:45 to help us remain centered and to give us strength when we come to the point where we “want to go back to Egypt.” During this Lent journey, we will do some new and exciting things during our Sunday Morning Worship Service and these midweek services. I hope you all make plans to attend these services as we go “Though the Wilderness” and come out in the Promised Land! Blessings, Duawn
