Missions Minute

For those of us who love Autumn, we will soon be officially into the season of falling leaves, a nip in the air and pumpkin spice lattes.  The arrival of autumn  brings the prospect of colder weather and new challenges for families living day to day.  Covenant Daily Bread is an effort to lift a portion of the burden from families in need.  Since Covenant began this outreach project, the numbers of families has gradually increased.

We have had a few hiccups along the way, as occurs with any endeavor but our volunteers are amazing and have reached many people through the pantry.  Thank you for giving of yourselves!  The Food pantry is open the third Monday of each month from the hours of  9:00 til 11:00 am.  Covenant volunteers work from 8:30 til 11:30.

The container for boxtops will remain in the lobby for any of you who prefer to bring them to the church.   The ones that are brought to the church are mailed to the Children’s Home in Denton, TX.  If you are interested in transferring them electronicly, you can visit youtube and find the Boxtops new app.  The collection of  Dicus receipts will continue in the foyer as before.  The blue, mini trash can with the apple on the front is the place to deposit them for St. Lukes as we have in the past.

Backpacks will soon be delivered to the school at the first of the month.  Honey has worked very hard to assure the food is received by kids who need it

We have members of our church who, through their membership in Kiwanis, have begun an early childhood reading program at Latta.  I understand the kids really love it.

The Missions team’s next meeting is October 20th  after church.   Please continue to pray for the mission team, our church and its outreach projects .  Mission team members are Honey Mearns, Pastor Duawn, Larry and Nancy Young, Betty Owens, Judy Davidson, Barbara Johnson and Barbara Isaacs.

And don’t forget…on October 25th, Mama T’s is having a fund raising gala.  Tickets are $50.  It would be great to get a large turnout from the church to support pastor Duawn and his daughter Anna.   It will surely be worth $50.
