We are now on the past side of Christmas. The presents have been opened, the last Christmas party is just a memory and good old Saint Nick has stabled his reindeer until next year. But, we can continue to celebrate the joy and wonder of the season far into the New Year by continuing our service to our beloved savior, Jesus, by serving others in need.
Covenant Daily Bread continues assisting needy families. The increase in folks needing help with food also continues. The Food Pantry is open the Monday after the third Wednesday of each month from the hours of 9:00 until 11:00 am. Covenant volunteers work from 8:30 until 11:30. The next pantry is scheduled for January 20, 2020.
Our December pantry handed out blessing bags to our clients/customers in addition to the regular food products. It was a blessing for us to provide a little extra for each family served. Many thanks to Kathy Lofton, Susan Kiser and Cheryl Rhynes for spearheading this extra outreach to the community we are serving.
We assisted 6 needy families with Thanksgiving baskets this year. Thank you Denna Gordon for helping with the shopping and distribution.
Our Thanksgiving Dinner and Item auction was a success once again. Thanks to everyone who helped with the dinner, the auction and the clean- up. CPWM continued helping within the church family by sending money to the Children’s home, the Lakota reservation in South Dakota and providing funds for the Hot Lunch Program in South America. We also will be providing funds for Church camp for our youth in summer 2020.
We continue with our collection of Dicus receipts and boxtops.
The Mission team has begun a new service to assist clients at Mama T’s. We are calling it “Treats for Feets” and we will be collecting bundles of socks for the needy and homeless in Ada. If this project is successful, we may seek opportunities to reach out to other assistance programs in the community.
The Mission teams next meeting is scheduled for January 19th after church. Please continue to pray for the mission team, our church and its outreach projects. Mission team members are Honey Mearns, Pastor Duawn, Larry and Nancy Young, Betty Owens, Judy Davidson, Barbara Johnson, Steve Huston and Barbara Isaacs.
